The answer stands in the buy box before the jacket comes back.

When every seventh jacket comes back for the same reason, the answer lies in the reasons of the returns. The plugin counts them, suggests a hint, and the sentence stands above “Add to shopping cart” for every size.

The question

How do I learn for which product a hint pays off, and how do I bring it before the purchase?

The situation

A shop for rainwear sells the Rain Jacket Nordwind for 149.00 €. It is cut wide so that a sweater fits underneath; many still order their usual size and send it back. In the last 90 days 96 pieces went out.

  • 96 pieces sold in 90 days, all sizes together
  • 14 pieces back with “Too large”, 3 with “Not what I wanted”
  • Defaults of the suggestions: from 10 % of the pieces sold and from 5 pieces, counted over 90 days

When the plugin suggests a hint

Two thresholds, both have to be reached

Per main product and reason the plugin counts how many of the pieces sold came back with this reason. Variants count together. A suggestion appears when the share reaches the percentage threshold and the minimum number of pieces as well.

ReasonbackShare of salesfrom 5 piecesfrom 10 %Suggestion
Too large14 of 9614.6 %yesyesyes
Not what I wanted3 of 963.1 %nonono

Back counts pieces from returns that are not declined; free replacement deliveries and cancelled orders do not count as sold.

At the product the tab “Return shipments” then shows the suggestion ““Too large” at 14.6 % of the sales of the last 90 days (14 of 96 pieces)”, and the product appears under “Suggestions for product hints”. Where both are and what each button does is shown under Product hints.

Writing the hint

One sentence that helps with buying, not with sending back

“Create as hint” opens the window with the reason already chosen. The shop writes what the customer has to know before buying and names the way out right away.

  • The reason “Too large” links the hint to the suggestion; afterwards the suggestion disappears.

  • The text stands in the shop as it stands here; a line break stays.

In the buy box: above “Add to shopping cart”, for every size

The hint hangs on the main product and applies to all variants. It stands between the choice of size and “Add to shopping cart” as Shopware’s blue notice; the customer does not see the reason behind it.

  • The sentence stands where the size is chosen.

  • It stays when the size changes, also in buy boxes of shopping experiences.

What applies afterwards

Does the hint work?

In the tab “Return shipments” at the product and in the statistics you see after a few weeks whether the share of “Too large” drops. The suggestions calculate anew on every opening, without a cache.

  • A hint without a reason leaves the suggestion standing; only a hint with the same reason takes it out.
  • “Reject hint” removes a suggestion for good, even if more pieces come back with the reason afterwards.
  • The thresholds only apply under “All sales channels”; values for a single sales channel do not count.
  • A hint only stands in the shop once you create it; a suggestion alone changes nothing in the buy box.

The settings for it

Where to find them in the configuration (Orders › Return shipments › side menu System › Settings):

  • Card Dashboard and product hints › From share of the pieces sold in percentFrom this share of the pieces of a product sold that came back with the same reason the suggestions propose a hint; with 10 about every tenth piece.

  • Card Dashboard and product hints › From pieces sent backAt least this many pieces came back with the reason; both thresholds have to be reached. This guards against chance with few sales.

  • Card Dashboard and product hints › Period in daysThe orders of these last days and their return shipments count, whole days with today.

Common questions

How do I show a hint about the size in the buy box?

Create a hint at the product in the tab “Return shipments” in the card “Hints”. It stands above “Add to shopping cart” for every variant of the product.

How do I know for which product a hint pays off?

Under “Suggestions for product hints” are all products where a reason reaches the thresholds: from 10 % of the pieces sold and from 5 pieces in the last 90 days, both adjustable.

Does the customer see why the hint is there?

No. They only see the text. The reason links the hint to the suggestion in the admin.

Can a product have several hints?

Yes. Several hints stand as a list one below the other, in the order of their position.

Does the hint apply per sales channel?

No. A hint applies in every sales channel in which the product is listed, in the language of the shop or otherwise the system language.

What happens to a suggestion I do not want?

“Reject hint” takes it out of the list for good, even if more pieces come back with the reason later.
